Frustrated by the additional expense and difficulties with slower shipping, Seesmart Technologies (SEST) feels it is very important to have more control over the manufacturing process, as a result, it has intended to increase their production of LED lighting products in the United States.

Combined with their desire to create jobs for US citizens, the company started building factories in Simi Valley, California, and Crystal Lake, Illinois. "When we do the numbers we're actually ahead manufacturing here instead of paying for air freight and dealing with the logistical issues that we're having in China," said Raymond Sjolseth, the company's president and co-founder.

And according to an interview with CBS news, Seesmart has pursued grants and incentives from federal agencies that might assist companies like theirs, who manufacture energy-efficient technologies and believe that employing our own workers is a key component in improving our current economy. Even know they have not been able to cut through the red tape, they are still committed to bringing jobs home.

The company today makes 20 percent of its products in the United States, a number it aims to push to 75 percent by the end of next year. Successful completion of this goal could result in hundreds of new jobs for US employees.

The civic body has selected Dutta Electricals, a Guwahati-based firm, for installing 178 LED lights in six streets of the city. Work on the project will commence soon. "We are going to install 25-watt LED lights in six streets of the city. Earlier, the GMC installed street lights in electric poles belonging to Assam State Electricity Board. But this time, we are going to install LED lights in glass reinforced polymer composite conical embedded-type galvanized poles. These poles will be fully insulated and can be transported easily for light weight," said Jeet Barbaruah, assistant engineer of GMC.

The electric and architectural sign manufacturer Arrow Signs has won the 2012 ISA Sign Design Competition for Electronic Message Centers with the @First Shopping Center project in San Jose, CA during the annual ISA International Sign Expo in Orlando, FL.

According to Scott Reese, Arrow Signs LED Sales Specialist, the project required a great deal of collaboration and review with the customer and the San Jose sign review board. The sign code for San Jose is very particular on LED signage, and the project had to be specifically approved before construction.

Chinese organized 31 exhibitors to take part in the four shows this year

PIDA pointed out that over 660 individual buyers from 30 countries and regions registered in advance to visit the shows this year, increasing 41% from 2011. However, over 2,500 buyers showed up at the fairs in the first two days. Mainland China organized procurement missions with LED high bay light a record number of around 500 individual buyers participating in the four shows. Also, mainland Chinese organized 31 exhibitors to take part in the four shows this year.

This year, a total of 253 exhibitors displayed their latest products at 797 booths at the four shows this year, up 18% and 17%, respectively, from the 2011 event. Another impressive fact is that 50% more mainland Chinese exhibitors participated in the show this year, compared to 2011.

Of the four shows, the LED lighting event alone drew around 40 light-fitting buyers from some 10 countries, including the United States, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, India, Turkey, White Russia, and Thailand.

These fittings are designed and constructed to operate for 60,000 hours maintenance free (seven years at 24 hours a day) saving the council a further £1,065 per annum in annual maintenance costs.

Developed by professor Tao Wang of the University of Sheffield, Seren’s new processing technique can increase an HB-LED’s luminous efficacy and reduce heat generation under normal running conditions. Demonstrations of the patent-pending technology have resulted in a significant increase in light output compared to untreated devices, it is claimed, so that either much brighter lamps can be manufactured or the power consumption of lamps can be reduced.

The TSB grant will be used to develop a second additive nano-particle technology that will further increase the LED’s efficiency. The technology, which has been demonstrated in a laboratory environment, will be developed into a process compatible with modern manufacturing techniques before being offered under license to Seren’s future manufacturing partners.

Seren’s technology is targeted at the large and fast-growing white-light HB-LED markets, such as back-lighting for laptops and TVs, signs and displays, as well as domestic and architectural lighting. This market is currently worth an estimated $15bn and is set to grow to $20bn by 2014, says Seren.

Taiwan Everlight has intended to cooperate with distributors in mainland China. There will be 3000 channel partners to sell Everlight’s LED bulbs by the end of 2012. In addition, the Taiwanese company has scheduled to add 6000 channel partners in 2013, and it will adopt the same way in Hongkong.

By improving the sustainability of their properties and reducing their carbon footprints, retailers are viewed as leaders in environmental stewardship and as better neighbors, which also serves to positively impact a store’s overall profitability.

The first step for retailers to gain control of their lighting energy use and expenditures is to have a vendor complete a lighting audit. Through an audit, the vendor can identify the “low-hanging” fruit in terms of efficiency and detail how a pilot program on strategic areas would demonstrate potential energy savings and reinforce the findings of an audit.

Art Van Furniture, Michigan's largest furniture retailer and America's largest independent furniture retailer, has executed a plan to replace 38,000 incandescent lamps with LED throughout the 34 Art Van showrooms in Michigan to save energy. And these savings led DTE Energy and the Engineering Society of Detroit to honor it for its trailblazing efforts.

The switch from incandescent to LED will save 63 watts of energy per lamp. Moreover, the new lamps have a maximum temperature of only 85 degrees. The traditional, incandescent lamps reach temperatures of more than 200 degrees. This means that Art Van will also be cutting costs by reducing the heat load in their showrooms with the new lighting system.

Rather than be tempted into producing sub-standard technology to answer demand for the lowest possible costs, we must shift the consumer mind set away from consumables and towards solutions. This change can be effected by consistent, high quality technology that will trigger increased consumer demand and, as a result, drive competitive product cost.

In a sustainable future our understanding of ROI cannot be limited to the initial cost of the lamp but must incorporate total product life span, product consumption, waste and recycling costs. This is a shift in logic that must be reflected in our own attitudes before we can encourage it in our consumers.

As an industry it is important that we evolve from operations based on high volume production, retail presence and a commoditised market and look forward to long-term relationships with clients and a business model based on service and solutions provision. Most importantly, we need to take responsibility for empowering the consumer through better information, in particular unified and lifetime-based product standards.

Ultimately, the answer to pricing pressure isn’t to artificially drive cost down with less efficient technology but to help the consumer to understand exactly what it is they are buying. When the true value of LEDs becomes clear to them they will be considerably more prepared to accept the cost."

According to GfK, LED celling lights have seen a remarkable increase, with their unit sales share soaring from 2.9% in March 2011 to 50.1% in March 2012. In terms of value, there was a notable rise of 64.1% over the same period of analysis, marking the first time sales of LED celling lights have exceeded fluorescent celling lights in both units and value.

"Our ceilings vary from 12 to 14 feet high so we needed the light to deliver a powerful punch without being too bright that it washed everything out," added Koehler.

Although the LED lamps produce approximately 30 percent fewer lumens than comparable incandescent and halogen options, advanced optics concentrate light on the target, diminishing wasted extraneous light.

More and more frequently, luminaires in the professional sector are equipped with LEDs. This applies both for indoor and outdoor lighting solutions. In the process, luminaire manufacturers give particular importance to durable, efficient and high-quality LEDs. “The demand for high-quality and robust light emitting diodes will continue to increase in the future. Duris P 5 offers a luminous efficacy of up to 110 lm/W (color temperature 3000 K) and an average lifetime of more than 50,000 hours, even at high currents and temperatures. Furthermore, this highly efficient LED is the first of its kind on the market for medium-power classes with particular resistance to adverse environmental conditions. Long-term tests with corrosive gases such as sulphur or chlorine cause no harm to the LED, without inducing a significant luminous flux decrease. Nor did long-term tests under sauna-like conditions, with considerable temperatures and high humidity levels, have any adverse effect on the LED.

Taiwan-based Delta Electronics Inc. and AcBel Polytech Inc. have gained LED lightings orders from Japan, to help Japanese enterprises fight against upcoming price hikes of electricity caused by upcoming suspension of nuclear power plants.

Reportedly, Japan has ordered a total of 54 commercial nuclear power plants to suspend operations by the end of April for periodical maintenance. However, due mainly to the public’s fear about radioactive contamination in the environment, it didn’t come out the concrete timetables for resumption.

In addition, electricity prices for local enterprises are to rise 17% in April. To ighter electricity bills, most of Japanese enterprises are considering to replace traditional lamps with LED bulbs and lamps.

As a result, there is a huge opportunity for Taiwanese LED firms. Delta disclosed that contract orders for its LED bulbs from Japan have significantly increased recently partly on a surge of enterprises’ needs, and partly on fast-growing consumer demand in the country. Its newest 1000lm LED bulb with only 130 grams as world’s lightest model, will play a key role in its growing LED lighting business. Since its debut at Lighting Japan 2012 in mid-January, the new bulb has been widely ordered by customers in the country. And will be mainly targeted at the Chinese and Japanese markets in 2012.

Adding to PureForm cost savings is its ease of maintenance.  Accessing the LED drivers is done by loosening two captive screws, which allow the LED driver compartment to be opened. The LED drivers themselves are on a driver tray which can be easily removed and replaced. EECA has found switching to energy efficient lighting provides one of the best returns on investment for companies looking to reduce their energy use.

“Lighting accounts for about a fifth of the electricity used in commercial buildings so there’s a lot of potential for savings for both individual companies and the country as a whole” says Bill Brander, EECA’s Lighting Programme Manager. “For example, reducing electricity use by just 20% through use of more efficient lighting and controls has the potential to save 1.4 petajoules or over $40 million of energy at a national level.”

Apart from that, the company is also developing the 2nd generation (or "type 2") panel which will up the efficiency to 60 lm/W and the lifetime to 15,000 hours. It will keep the same size, but the color will be 3,500K. It plans to start mass production of type 2 panels in 2Q 2012.

In the meanwhile, LG Chem published their LED lighting roadmap. According to its roadmap, the company schedules to provide larger panels (150x150 mm) which will feature 80 lm/W and 20,000 lifetime hours (LT70) by 2013. And they will also produce transparent panels by then. By 2015 the company will offer flexible panels as well, and their most efficient panel will feature over 135 lm/W and 40,000 lifetime (LT70) at 200x200 mm.

LED lighting not only offers the advantage of a long service life

The Jerónimo Martins Group is among the first European retail companies to equip its new stores entirely with innovative LED lighting, a move that will save the company 50 percent of its lighting energy costs in future – thanks to Oslon SSL LEDs from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors and the intelligent light management system of the luminaires supplied by the Portuguese lamp manufacturer Arquiled.

The Jeronimo Martins Group has been using the luminaire concepts from Arquiled in its new stores since spring 2011. The first LED-based lighting systems were installed in a newly opened Recheio store in Torres Vedras, a rapidly growing region north of Lisbon. The lighting in both the shop and the outdoor areas is being seen as a model and reference for the chain’s other stores. The next project is already being planned for a store in Tavira, Portugal, where Arquiled will likewise incorporate products from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors in its special lighting concept, aiming to achieve the highest quality of the LEDs used. “Apart from the performance and efficiency of the products, which are unparalleled on the LED market, another winning feature of the LEDs from Germany is the excellent local support we receive,” says Arquiled’s CEO, Rafael Abelha Santos, explaining the background of the partnership.

The Jeronimo Martins Group also elected to use luminaires from Arquiled and high-quality LEDs from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors for its outdoor lighting in the area of the parking lots and around the integrated gas stations. The Arquicity street lamps are equipped with light sensors and can adapt their brightness automatically to changing situations. The combination of intelligent light management and the low energy consumption of the LEDs will slash energy costs. "The technical properties of the LED technology will help to achieve considerable savings on power consumption and offer numerous advantages in terms of installation and maintenance, too. That means we save three different resources: power, time and money," said Antonio Sousa, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Portugal.

The project began with a detailed analysis of the retail chain’s lighting requirements. Based on the results, Arquiled developed a luminaire concept to meet the special needs of supermarkets. LED lighting not only offers the advantage of a long service life and the associated low maintenance costs, but is also ideal for direct product illumination. LEDs generally emit very little thermal energy and do not heat up the objects they are illuminating. They can hence be positioned closer to products without damaging them.

Nestled in the foothills of the Hualapai Mountain range, the award-winning Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC) is a community-owned 235-bed healthcare facility located in Kingman, Arizona—the seat of the led high bay light. It is the largest provider of health and wellness services in northwestern Arizona and has been often recognized as one of the nation’s top 100 hospitals in the State of the Nation’s Hospitals report. When Howard Industrial Sales made a demonstration of the 88-watt LEDtronics SLL003P-30X2W-XPW-005 LED luminaire, the chairman of the board, managers and other executives were all impressed by the led linear high bay light output and the resulting detail clarity in the security cameras, not to mention the energy savings of 202 watts per fixture.

Stadium owners BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo) took the opportunity to reinvent the stadium’s guest experience and its look and feel from the inside and out. Lead architects Stantec Architecture Ltd. Were brought led high bay light in to create a design that would make the stadium stand out as an iconic part of the cityscape and lighting consultants C.M. Kling were also hired.

As a result Lumenpulse Lumenfacade and Lumenbeam products were chosen to work in tandem with striking architectural features like a spectacular cable and mast -supported retractable roof and a facade made of ETFE (a transparent polymer), to bring the stadium to life.

As part of a $563 million renovation, Lumenfacade RGB fixtures are mounted on the steel beams supporting the translucent facade material to create an ethereal scrim of color around the stadium, while Lumenbeam RGB luminaires are mounted on the masts to bathe the roof in colored light.

When sports teams are in the house Lumenpulse’s products light the stadium with the signature colors of each team, building team spirit inside and allowing people outside to see who’s playing. Other led linear high bay light shows feature gradual-moving abstract designs on the facade with fixed roof colors and dynamic shows designed to involve the crowd at key moments like when a goal is scored, or when the audience participates in “The Wave.”

Revenue for the fiscal year end 2011 was $33.9 million, a 5.2% decrease compared to $35.8 million for the fiscal year end 2010. GAAP net loss attributable to SemiLEDs stockholders for the fiscal year 2011 was $16.1 million, led linear high bay light or a loss of $0.88 per diluted share, compared to GAAP net income attributable to SemiLEDs stockholders of $10.8 million, or $0.24 per diluted share, for the fiscal year 2010.

The first two all-electric busses manufactured Trans Tech Bus

The first two all-electric busses manufactured Trans Tech Bus, a TCI Company, debuted at the National Association of Pupil Transportation (NAPT) conference held on October 25, 2011 in Cincinnati, Ohio and offers a “green” solution for transporting students.

 Coming after from China announces the roadmap of banning incandescent , the US Department of Energy (DOE) has also been accelerating funding for the production of LEDs to help the country be competitive in LED industry and the overall clean energy race.

The DOE will be accepting funding applications through December 15, 2011, for developers of energy-saving lighting technologies involving LEDs in some of the latest developments.

there is growing demand for products that offer innovative solutions

Although we have seen tremendous growth in LED lighting sales over the last few years, it is clear that we have only scratched the surface of LED lighting adoption and there is growing demand for products that offer innovative solutions and good payback.”

Back to early September, Nichia filed a charge against Everlight, alleging that its white LED lamps sold through Japanese retailer Chip On Stop also infringe its No. 4530944 patent.

Following closely, Nichia has again claimed that Everlight’s white LED bulbs entering Japan through importer Tachibana Eletech of Japan infringes its No. 4530094 patent, and brought the charge before Tokyo District Court in early October, appealing for compensation and prohibition on the infringement. Besides, Nichia has demanded Tachibana stop selling the disputed products.

Nevertheless, Everlight countered that Taiwan’s civilian and administrative court rulings made in July 2010 and March 2011 had led high bay light proved that the Nichia patent’s validity already expired and that Chip On Stop was not its dealer.

Chinese lights can also be used to decorate the interiors as well

There are various forms to be chose. Among these, pipe light (Rs 30 per metre) and chip light (Rs 660 per five metres) are common and high in demand. Also huge star light (Rs 150), heart light (Rs 150), led linear high bay light peacock wing (Rs 175), 'Swastik' (Rs 160) and 'Om' (Rs 150) (all LED lights) are the other items in demand.

Chinese lights can also be used to decorate the interiors as well. Attractive items like big colourful light balls (electronic kandeel) made of cloth and thread at Rs 660, lights in the shape of 'Ganesh-Lakshmi' made of bamboo for Rs 900 are also in demand.

The only thing Indian about the Chinese lights are the interesting names. There is 'magic' light that exhibits a change in colour within a short span of time. 'Damru lights' with countless mini-bulbs in a row is another attraction.

These lights can be bought at Rs 60 per piece (per piece and includes about 40 bulbs). The four-in-one 'crystal gola' exhibits various hues of red, green, orange and blue, said Abdul, a light shop owner on led high bay light. Other varieties available in the market are 'flower jaal'and 'pearl strip' that can be combined with the rope lights to cover an entire building.

manufactures are about to enter the Chinese market

Epistar owns several subsidiaries in China, including Luxlite (Shenzhen, Guangdong), Crystalrich (Guangdong, Guangdong), led high bay light (Xiamen, Fujian), ULED (Jining, Shandong) and the latest addition Epicrystal (Changzhou, Jiangsu). Light products that incorporate Epistar’s manufactures are about to enter the Chinese market.

Epicrystal is invested and founded by Epistar, LiteOn, Konka and Episky and is Epistar’s biggest investment project in China. It is also the first time that Epistar institutes its epi wafer technology in a non-Taiwanese plant. The new plant employs about 250 workers with a registered capital of US$ 120 million and an overall investment of US$ 360 million. The plant mainly engages in the development and manufacture of LEDs, epi wafers and LED wafers, and it also provides technology consulting service.

Epitaxy Department Manager of Epicrystal, stated that Epicrystal’s products will mostly be adopted in the backlight sector. 10 sets of Aixtron 4-inch MOCVD equipment have been installed in the new plant for its production, and the amount is expected to increase to 15 by the end of 2011; the led linear high bay light amount is set to total 30 at the end of the first stage. The plant is planned to be at full capacity by the end of 2013.
