Some industry experts predict that within 10 years, these lights will deliver more environmental and economic benefits than any other clean technology, including high-voltage power transmission, electric vehicles, smart grids or renewable power.
In North America,LED high bay light account for about 8 percent of the general lighting market, according to a 2012 report on the global LED sector from consultants McKinsey.
The use of these lights in the United States alone has saved 2.6 terawatt hours of power per year, equivalent to the electricity needed to power over 200,000 average U.S. households, according to a 2011 research report prepared by Navigant Consulting Inc for the U.S. Department of Energy.
In China, the world's top energy consumer and carbon emitter, general lighting accounts for 12 percent of annual electricity consumption. About 70 percent of China's electricity is generated from coal.

the limited adoption of the highest efficacy lamps
Since lamps that meet consumer color quality expectations will provide significantly more energy savings than the limited adoption of the highest efficacy lamps; manufacturers, designers, academics, and LED high bay light utilities strongly recommended that EPA provide some easement for the luminous efficacy targets of high CRI LED Lamps, which are fundamentally more challenging than low CRI products. Specific proposals were submitted to the EPA last week.
“Fundamental physics research shows that there is a ~2% penalty in luminous efficacy per point of CRI. So, going from a CRI of 80, where most LEDs operate, to a CRI of 90, there is a ~20% penalty in lm/W,” said Dr. Shuji Nakamura, Professor of Materials Department and Co-Director for the Solid State Lighting & Energy Center at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Researchers from Boston University have invented a unique way of using LED lights to transmit location information to mobile devices within buildings.
Researchers Dan Ryan and Aaron Ganick’s start-up, ByteLight, is based entirely around proprietary software that can accurately map the inside of buildings using only LED lighting to transmit location information.

There have only been two larger previous awards
Among the disk makers, Western Digital has been its biggest customer over recent years. Carnegie Mellon had accused Marvell of including technologies—invented by one of its professors and a student—designed to increase the accuracy disk drives read data at high speeds. The university told the court the firm had sold 2.3 billion chips incorporating the disputed inventions between 2003 and 2012.
Marvell had argued both that its chips had not used the university’s tech, and that the patents should never have been awarded in the first place—but the jury disagreed. The damage award has the potential to be the biggest in US patent history. There have only been two larger previous awards, according to law data provider Lex Machina.
In 2007 Microsoft was ordered to pay Lucent Technologies US$1.52 billion in damages over disputed MP3 and MPEG video technologies; and in 2009 Abbot Laboratories was ordered to pay Centocor Ortho Biotech US$1.67 billion for infringing its antibodies biotech patents—however, both judgements were later overturned.
That leaves the recent US$1.05 billion jury award to Apple in its case versus Samsung as the largest outstanding figure—the judge in the case has yet to finalise the sum. However, one expert said it would be some time before the details of the disk drive dispute would be finalised.

The Financial Times believes LED technology is reaching a tipping point
A glut of manufacturing capacity and near-collapse in rare earth metal prices is driving down the cost and hence encouraging the rapid take-up of light-emitting diode (LED) lighting.
LED lights are based on semiconductors and therefore do not require traditional lamp manufacturing expertise. This has opened opportunities for LED chipmakers to challenge the incumbent incandescent light bulb manufacturers such as Philips, Osram and General Electric (GE), who have enjoyed a near-monopoly of the market according to an FT article.
The Financial Times believes LED technology is reaching a tipping point, particularly for the commercial sector, as price declines bring forward the payback time on the initial cost of investment. According to McKinsey, quoted in the article, LEDs are set to account for 41 percent of the overall value of the lighting market in 2016 and 63 percent by 2020, versus 12 percent last year.

The pilot program is intended to showcase the various technology options
The SFPUC says LED fixtures are superior to the existing high-pressure sodium cobra head-style streetlights. They consume 50 percent less energy on average than the conventional streetlights and generally do not require maintenance for up to 20 years.
The technology would allow the lights to be monitored in real time, allowing the SFPUC to detect whether a replacement is needed, respond more quickly to outages and adjust brightness levels remotely, said Charles Sheehan, a spokesman for the agency.
A Dec. 11 SFPUC memo says, “Each pilot project partner will supply 18 LED street lights with integrated controls, supporting equipment and web access to software. In addition to the integration of the LED street lights with the controls, various sensors and video cameras will be tested.”
The pilot program is intended to showcase the various technology options.
Community meetings are planned for January in the test neighborhoods. Those areas include Irving Street between Sixth and 24th avenues, Washington Street between Presidio Avenue and Arguello Boulevard, and Pine Street between Market Street and Grant Avenue.
The pilot is expected to begin in March, with total installation and a Wi-Fi network slated for 2014. The project is estimated to take about a year and a half to complete.

Annual bulb replacements were becoming a significant financial drain in both supply
At its 1,700-megawatt Martins Creek Power Plant north of Easton, Pa., the company recently replaced the antiquated Xenon obstruction lighting system on the facility’s two exhaust stacks with state-of-the-art 270,000 candela LED High-Intensity Strobe systems from Dialight. The retrofit will reduce PPL Generation’s maintenance and energy costs.
Constructed in 1974, the Martins Creek facility consists of two oil/natural gas-fired units with a generation capacity of 850 megawatts each. Twin 600-foot ventilation stacks tower over the facility and its surrounding neighbors, each signaled by the requisite FAA obstruction lighting system.
The existing systems, comprised of two sets of three Xenon strobes at positioned 296 feet and 586 feet, had been in place more than 30 years, since the plant first came online. Annual bulb replacements were becoming a significant financial drain in both supply and manpower costs. In 2010 alone, the Martins Creek plant had to replace 10 out of 12 lamps. The year before, the plant replaced all 12 lamps.
Recognizing the need to upgrade, PPL worked with its electrical and lighting contractor, Fuellgraf Chimney & Tower, to specify a new high-efficiency LED system.

the final stages of renovation with a scheduled inauguration date of February 2013
Insiders emphasize that government regulators should provide clear and consistent LED bulb lumen specifications that precisely match incandescent lumen specifications so that shoddy products will not be able to push quality products out of market.
The PIDA suggests that in addition to providing labels with clear product specifications, manufacturers need to introduce LED bulbs that are much better, in terms of energy efficiency, than CFLs equipped with efficient ballasts. The association feels that purchases of LED bulbs will likely increase if the government includes the bulbs in a labeling system established by the government to rate electrical products according to energy-saving performance.

the chip has been designed in particular for infrared illumination applications
Epistar not only respects others’ IP but also protects its proprietary technologies by filing its own patents or by acquisition to strengthen its patent portfolio. This is a demonstration of Epistar’s engineering efforts and capabilities. It also provides Epistar’s customers and partners freedom and a secured position in LED industry.
The infrared chip prototype has achieved a new record with an efficiency of up to 72 percent. At 930 milliwatts from an operating current of 1 amp, its light output under laboratory conditions is 25 percent higher than that of the chips currently available on the market, which means that future infrared LEDs can be made even more energy-efficient. The efficiency was measured at room temperature and at a dc current up to 1 amp. With a wavelength of 850 nanometers the chip has been designed in particular for infrared illumination applications.
The results from the R&D laboratory in Regensburg have created a new milestone. The prototype of a 1 mm2 chip in infrared thin-film chip technology has achieved an efficiency of 72 percent from an operating current of 100 milliamps. This efficiency, known as wall plug efficiency (WPE), indicates the ration of the radiated power to the electrical input power.
The external quantum efficiency (EQE), in other words the probability of creating a photon and its emission from the LED chip per electron, is as high as 67 percent and remains above 64 percent up to an operating current of 1 amp.

the dark spots that form between poles with sodium lamps strung along residential streets
Across North Carolina, the "greener" streetlights are beginning to appear in pilot studies in Charlotte, Raleigh, LED high bay light and Greenville. In November, Asheville began the third and final phase through Progress Energy Carolinas to upgrade LED streetlights on city-maintained roads.
In Fayetteville, PWC installed the first electric streetlight around 1910 on North Cool Spring Street downtown, and more than 40 were added along Hay Street in 1913.
Today, sodium-vapor-powered lights have been ubiquitous across the city for a generation, casting a yellowish glow over streets and sidewalks. Sodium vapor replaced mercury-vapor lights, which were the industry standard in the 1950s and '60s.
But mercury lamps became an environmental liability, and disposing of burned-out mercury bulbs became costly, said Reggie Wallace, interim chief operating officer for PWC's electric system.
He said streetlights with LED fixtures cast white light that spreads out, reducing the dark spots that form between poles with sodium lamps strung along residential streets.

The advanced systems that we already produce
As a leading UK manufacturer of LED lighting systems, Low Energy Designs are constantly looking towards product development, in line with customer requirements and market changes. Research and development is a key aspect of the business, so entry to the competition seemed a natural step. CEO Alan Parker said, “The award is a great success for LED high bay light business and will allow us to build on the advanced systems that we already produce”.
Their winning entry is based on a project which will further improve the wireless connectivity of the company’s lighting control systems. Ultimately this will enable greater control and operability of the lighting, which will specifically benefit the end-user. This focus is very much in line with the aim of the business to be both customer and product driven. Alan Parker states, “We firmly believe that innovation is the lifeblood of UK manufacturers like ourselves, and improving technology is what we are all about”.

wireless control systems are set to overtake wired control systems in sales
The popularity of wireless lighting control systems is increasing as they are cheaper in construction terms, and easier to set up, as no modification to existing structures is required. Patterns suggest that wireless control systems are set to overtake wired control systems in sales.
Ballasts account for the largest portion of the lighting controls market, and the advent of electronic ballasts and the subsequent LED high bay light dip in price, coupled with their energy efficiency resulted in markets swaying in favour of electronic ballasts.
Currently, Europe is the largest regional lighting controls market worldwide. It is closely followed by the USA, with Asia-Pacific offering the highest growth potential due to an increase in construction activity and mandatory government policies that require the incorporation of green technologies and adherence to various energy efficiency standards.
Speaking to reporters here showcasing Light Next ? an interactive lighting experience centre, Nirupam Sahay, president at Philips Lighting said, the growth drivers from the segment are the decline in LED prices, investment by government in energy efficient lighting systems and the quick return on investment (ROI).

the cost of silicon cells substantially
The institute has its three latest award-winning innovations: Light&Light, the first A19 all-plastic LED light bulb; a low-cost, easy-to-use voltage and current meter called AVA-Clamp; and SideLighter, billed as “the first low-cost, high-performance, transparent concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) solar panel” that can be used both as a structural panel or window and to generate clean, renewable electricity.
A ‘light-guiding solar concentrator film/panel,’ ITRI’s SideLighter can be incorporated into windows and building and roofing materials, as well as solar power systems. “A light-guiding solar concentrator panel/film can be integrated with a small number of solar cells to develop a rooftop solar system with building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems that can save the cost of silicon cells substantially and is also transparent,” ITRI explains in a press release.
Sidelighter’s solar PV cells cost 93% less to produce than current PV cells, which contributes to a 46% reduction in building CPV solar panels, according to ITRI. The institute is already working with Infinite Solar Optics Enterprise and Chi Lin Technology to mass produce SideLighter for some applications. ITRI has posted a video showing and describing SideLighter’s applications and performance on YouTube.
Similarly, at less than 100 grams, the Light&Light A19 all-plastic LED light bulb is small and highly efficient. According to ITRI, it uses less than 10 watts to produce the same amount of light as a 60-watt incandescent light bulb, with an illumination angle of 300 degrees at a price that’s 10-20% that of competing LED light bulbs. That can save 85% on light bulb power consumption.

The LED light energy into cellular energy
With LED lamps, scientists use two beams of light – red (R) and blue (B) with the maximum wavelength of 662nm and 430nm. At that time, the LED spectrum almost coincides with the absorption spectrum of the chlorophyll of plants. Thus, the plants can absorb the light energy at maximum level and turn the LED light energy into cellular energy.
Meanwhile, the highest possible efficiency of using solar energy and white light sources would be 35 percent only.As such, lighting with LED lamps would bring higher biology energy efficiency, thus allowing to better stimulate the growing of the plants than other familiar lamps. Especially, LED lamps would help save electricity.
Fluorescent lamps used in tissue culture would consume 30 – 40 percent of electricity, and 82 percent in the plant breeding enterprises. Meanwhile, with LED lamps, the volume of power to be consumed would be much lower. At plantation enterprises, if using LED lamps, one square meter of plantation area would need 0.27 kwh of electricity, while it would need 0.5 kwh with other kinds of lamps.
Scientists have also affirmed that the use of LED lamps in agriculture production would help improve the quality of farm produce, increase the nutrition value and reduce the nitrate concentration in vegetables and fruits. This also allows creating clean off-season products with high economic values.

In the case of occupant responsive lighting
Daintree’s ControlScope solution will be used to control existing fluorescent lights in one building and to control Cree’s lights in another building. Powell notes that one of the advantages of LEDs is their inherent controllability, but the agency still doesn’t know if the cost-benefit is right.
“The point is to see whether or not we can cost-effectively install that at market prices today,” said Powell. But cost isn’t the only factor; occupant satisfaction and maintainability also play a part in evaluating technology.
In the case of occupant responsive lighting, the technology saved 27 percent over baseline conditions for spaces illuminated 12 hours a day, five days a week -- and occupants embraced the upgrades. For LEDs, the savings will have to significantly beat what’s achievable with controllable fluorescents to make inroads with GSA.
Daintree Networks and Cree are already working together with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, delivering the joint solution at a wholesale distributor. The retrofit to the office and breakroom resulted in more than 91 percent savings.

its program focuses on maintaining a favorable relationship with experts in the education field
Csaba Remenyi, managing director of Oracle Hungary said, "This is not brain drain; we export knowledge but brains themselves remain here in Hungary."
Hungary's ailing economy is desperate for a rise in the employment rate after the country was hit hard by the economic crisis and is slowly emerging from that. The average unemployment rate from June to August was 10.4%. To counter this effect, the government has pledged to cooperate with manufacturers as well as research and development firms. The government isn't providing any financial backing for these developments but its program focuses on maintaining a favorable relationship with experts in the education field.
The eco-friendly LED strip lighting consumes very low power and is economical. And some Mumbaikars have already started enjoying the illuminated site as they zoom past from under the flyover as certain portion of it has got the series installed.
The lighting is also water proof and gives effect of beautification of the structure built early this year by the metropolitan administration. The MMRDA has already illuminated about 200 meters of the flyover. It's a very welcome development which, in fact, offers a pleasant view in the midst of a concrete jungle.

the new product line of LED Street Lights from their new Naples
On this note, the Sri Lanka's Ministry of Water Management is scheduled to visit the U.S next week for an official review of Apollo Metro Solutions' live working Automatic Meter Reading System prior to signing a definitive agreement for a wireless central network with digital meters that MESH together.
The unfolding partnership between Viper Networks and Apollo Metro Solutions is already exceeding expectations since Viper's CEO is directly responsible for closing two Sri Lanka pilot projects and Apollo is ahead of their first of New Year production schedule by already manufacturing the new product line of LED Street Lights from their new Naples, Florida operations.
According to the firm, the panel was made by arranging LED packages on a plane surface and covering them with a light diffusion plate. It emits light from the entire surface of the panel like an OLED lighting panel.By using its fluorescent material technologies, Rohm realized a general color rendering index (Ra) as high as 98 and prevented the sulfuration of lead frame, which lowers color rendering index.
In general, silver plating of an LED package's lead frame, on which an LED chip is mounted, is reacted with hydrogen sulfide contained in the air coming through the package material and blackened, gradually lowering color rendering index. The LED package developed by Rohm has a white resin layer that reflects light between the package material and lead frame to prevent the sulfuration.

the natural daylight needed for visual inspection after treatments
Halo is a result of a joint cooperation between Aluwave, D-TEC and industrial designers at Formal Design. The challenge in the project was to create the most shadow-free and high-quality light in a slim design to D-TEC’s professional users. We are very happy with the result, a LED based fixture that offers a uniform ambient light easy to dim with a remote control”, says Jonas St?lhandske, CEO at Aluwave.
The main target group for Halo is dentists. Their specific challenge is the difference in light in the clinic – the high flux from the operating lamp versus the lower flux in the ambient space where all the tools and equipment are located. In addition, dentists have specific requirements on light intensity, brightness and color rendering. The fixtures should also have low power consumption, remote controls and be easy to clean on a daily basis. This new LED-based fixture, Halo, meets all these requirements efficiently and recreates the natural daylight needed for visual inspection after treatments.
Aluwave has designed the LED-module, software and control system of the fixture and taken part of the joint development project with D-TEC and Formal Design. Now, Aluwave will manufacture the LED-modules and supply LED-modules, drivers and remote controls to D-TEC. Serial production has started and Halo is available on the market from now on.
Dan Ayres, Managing Director of Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology ,said that "It gives me a great sense of achievement to say that we have helped to enable the HBLED revolution. Our systems play a vital role in manufacturing HBLEDs, and we have served the industry as it has developed from its R&D roots into the global industry it is today.”

the cost of making LEDs without compromising
The said research shows LED lighting system with the highest developmental potential among LED lighting. On the other hand, with emphases on technological mass production, the market of LED linear high bay light (including LED epitaxy, packaging, and light engine) has started to grow rapidly since 2011, and will mature to stabilize in 2015. Bo says Philips will focus on brand recognition and innovative development of LED lighting.
Bo admitted that competition will be more furious in the LED lighting era, especially price competition of LED bulbs due to low market barrier, adding that Taiwan’s LED lighting industry has grown significantly compared to two years ago. With rapid industrial transformation, Taiwanese LED lighting makers have potential business of US$66.67 billion in production value from LED lighting system by 2020.
Jeff Hawthorne, Veeco’s Senior Vice President, MOCVD, commented, "Many of our LED customers are developing GaN-on-Si technology, which offers the potential to accelerate the adoption of solid-state lighting by reducing the cost of making LEDs without compromising end-product quality. We are glad to support Tongfang in their research efforts.”
The K465i features film quality and low defects, which are key for GaN-on-Si processing. It also incorporates Veeco's Uniform FlowFlange? technology for superior uniformity and excellent run-to-run repeatability. Low maintenance TurboDisc technology enables highest system availability, excellent particle performance and high throughput. The production-proven K465i provides ease-of-tuning for fast process optimization on wafer sizes up to 8 inches and fast tool recovery time after maintenance.
In the past, OLED display was a major emphasis at the Summits; however, this year we have expanded the topics on OLED lighting,” said Ngai, who has been a featured speaker since 2009 and an advisory council member since 2011. “The 2012 Summit will feature OLED technology for lighting, LED high bay light design sessions, as well as a strategic panel discussion on OLED lighting application.”

LEDs can provide the energy to drive all of that
Cary Mitchell, a plant biologist at Purdue University, says that as lunar light sources, LEDs would be cool, solid state and robust; lasting 50,000 hours at least, or some five times longer than conventional horticultural light sources. He also notes that that they could survive the journey to the lunar surface where they could then be strung inside inflatable lava tunnel greenhouses or in radiation-hardened, solid greenhouses on the surface.”
“On earth, Mitchell says it takes roughly 50 square meters of agriculture to provide both food and oxygen life to support one human. But, as he points out, who can say how productive plants are ultimately going to be on the moon, in gravity that is only one sixth that of earth?”
“Through photosynthesis, plants produce oxygen and also scavenge carbon dioxide out of the air,” said Mitchell. “Light LEDs can provide the energy to drive all of that.”
“As for water? Mitchell says if water can be generated onsite so much the better but, if not, it would need to be brought from earth and continually recycled.”

the continent were to switch its existing lighting to LED solution
According to a research study undertaken by Philips’ market intelligence team, Africa could save up to $10-billion in energy LED high bay light costs annually – more than 50- million tons of carbon and the equivalent energy output of 35 power stations, if the continent were to switch its existing lighting to LED solutions.
These figures are only estimated under on-grid lighting, where electricity is present. If LED solutions combine with the latest innovations in battery and solar developments, they can provide practical and sustainable light for about 600-million Africans who currently live without electricity.
Recently, the company has set up the first solar lighting project on the African continent that use Philips Solar Gen2 LED lighting system, in Marrakech, Morroco.
The system is easy to install and has built-in intelligence to maximise battery life and output. The timings for the lights can be preset led high bay lighting and the system operates on smaller batteries and panels than conventional solutions.

fixture manufacturers is important to enabling quicker penetration of LED into the lighting market
SemiLEDs CEO, Mr. Trung Doan stated that S35 and P2, warm and cool white (5700K and 3000K respectively) were our first series to go through the 6000 hour tests at both 350 and 700mA. The test result from LED high bay light showed that the lumen maintenance is 98.75% and 97.81% for 55℃ and 85℃, respectively, for 3000K emitter at 700mA driving current, far above the requirements of LM-80 for domestic indoor application at 91.8% and domestic outdoor and commercial usage at 94.1%.
SemiLEDs further explained that providing high quality components to lighting fixture manufacturers is important to enabling quicker penetration of LED into the lighting market.
The S35 is SemiLEDs first series of emitters with a 35x35mm footprint utilizing a silicon housing material. SemiLEDs had launched the C35 – the second generation of its 35 x 35mm emitters in June 2012. The C35 incorporates SemiLEDs EV LED chip and a ceramic base. The thermal resistance complements to SemiLEDs vertical chip on metal alloy substrate technology. Besides thermal management, SemiLEDs also implemented the latest innovation in phosphor technology, Color PrecisionTM binning, to it C35 product family allowing customers to be in control of their CCT distribution. With the new technology, consistent color can be produced within a single 7-step, 4step or 2-step MacAdam Ellipse centered in ANSI defined standard color spaces.
“Working with IST for the LM-80 tests was a good choice. Being a certified test lab, IST showed its professionalism and provided all the led high bay lighting necessary assistance for us to verify our performance. We look forward to further cooperation for new products in the pipeline,” commented Doan.

the refraction indexes of resins change depending on temperature
Dehydrated pulp was impregnated with acrylate resin because the refraction index of acrylate resin is 1.52-1.60, which is close to the refraction index of cellulose (1.57). Materials other than acrylate resin can be used as long as their refraction indexes are close to that of cellulose, Yano said.
In general, the refraction indexes of resins change depending on temperature. But the light transmission of the new paper does not change much even at a temperature of 90°C because the pulp prevents the thermal expansion of the resin, Yano said.In November 2011, Yano announced that he developed a technology to make a transparent sheet by using a material made by making a crab shell transparent.
At Monday's city council meeting, council members authorized the mayor to sign a contract with local contractor, Paulson Electric Inc to complete LED lighting upgrade project in Missoula's City Hall. The project is being paid for by a grant from the Department of Energy given to the city as part of the Clean Air Act.
It means the company will now install almost $150,000 in new LED lighting and lighting controls in the basements, stairwells, and hallways of City Hall.

lighting maintenance will also be reduced as ballast replacement is eliminated with LED
Seesmart's LED retrofit replaced 1,300, 32-watt, T-8 fluorescent bulbs with high-efficiency LED tube lights throughout lobbies, common areas and garages at Ashforth's properties: 707 Summer Street, (Ashforth's headquarters) and 3001 Stamford Square, both located in Stamford, Conn.
Seesmart replaced lighting in building locations typically illuminated twenty-four hours a day, such as garages, stairwells, vestibules and lobbies; thus substantially reducing the properties' energy consumption. Additionally, lighting maintenance will also be reduced as ballast replacement is eliminated with LED and bulb replacement is extended due to an estimated useful life 10 times the average of traditional lighting products.
Ashforth, the commercial real estate firm , estimates it will save 56 percent on lighting and energy costs annually. The environmentally conscious company will also drastically reduce its carbon footprint by more than 253,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.
Village Place Apartments is a 72-unit complex, and, like most apartment complexes, Village Place’s interior corridor lighting is turned on 24 hours a day, seven days a week. During the retrofit, 56 lights were updated with the TerraLUX Linear LED Engine including: wall sconces, overhead dome lights, bathroom lights and outdoor lights.

LED industry will embrace a new round of market growth opportunity
It comes to know that as LED "heart", the reliability of drive power supply, has become the wind vane of LED industry. Some analysts point out that, driven by policy, public LED lighting market has rapidly kicked off. And commercial market is deepening, resident market is also to open. It’s estimated High-speed growth of LED lighting market will last from 2012 to 2015. At the same time, the demand for passive components will increase and in the future, professional power plant will share high-power power supply products market share. Therefore, LED industry will embrace a new round of market growth opportunity.
Approved by Taiwan's six major lighting associations and two state-funded institutes, the Institute for Information Industry (III) and the Industrial Technology Research Institute, the five intelligent lighting system standards cover the areas of system functions, wide area networks, field area networks, design guides for field area networks, and lighting device specifications, and will promote badly needed integration in the country's lighting supply chain.
Gary Tsai, a research director at the institute, pointed out that “To maintain our technological edge and overall value, Taiwanese companies need to develop higher-value smart lighting systems and improve product compatibility based on these new standards.”
Tsai said that the next step for Taiwan's LED industry is to apply to the government to have the standards accepted as national norms, which could help Taiwan expand its role in negotiations on setting international lighting standards. Before then, by bringing about greater industry integration, the new norms could help address the lack of balance between the domestic LED industry's output value and volume.

expand demand as prices of LED lighting products continue to drop
The Institute for Information Industry (LED high bay light) pointed out that these standards are expected to improve the efficiency of lighting management, improve safety during nighttime activities, create energy-saving and a smart lighting environment, and explore high value-added business opportunities worldwide.
The institute said that the five sets of standards for Taiwan's LED lighting products were approved by Taiwan's six major lighting associations after consultations.
The institute believes that it will be a good time for Taiwan's LED industry to cement its competitiveness and expand demand as prices of LED lighting products continue to drop.
Huga executives stressed integration of the two companies rather than merger in the deal. They noted that if Huga became a defunct company after the deal, its partnership contract with led high bay lighting would be abandoned. On the other hand, as Epistar wholly owns Huga, the two companies’ entry into the United States market would not be considered practicing fixing prices.

the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program
The authors say that cloudy skies are now thousands of times more radiant near cities than they ever have been before. They believe the addition of this extra light affects predatory-prey relationships where the predator hunts using vision.
The sky is blue in daytime because the cloud free atmosphere is good at scattering short wavelengths of light. The scientists believe that unless special care is taken in design and implementation, a switch to whiter LED lights could make the sky brighter on clear nights.
The team believes that cities that have changed to solid state lighting should purchase lamps that emit no upward light, and use “warm white” lights with as little blue light as possible.
The DOE LED Lighting Facts program showcases LED products for general illumination from manufacturers who commit to testing products and reporting performance results according to industry standards. The program also provides information essential to evaluating products and identifying the best options. LED Lighting Facts testing laboratory approval is granted to partners that have submitted proof of accreditation by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP), a program administered by the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) that provides an unbiased third-party evaluation to testing and calibration laboratories, or have been recognized by other accreditation bodies. Cooper Lighting has NVLAP accreditation for solid-state lighting (SSL) test methods in Energy Efficient Lighting Products.

Our focus above all is on increasing our productivity
Peter Loscher said at his third quarter earnings conference call, “Since market conditions continue to be volatile for an IPO, we have decided to pursue a spin-off to our shareholders as the most probable part of divestiture. This proposal requires shareholder approval at the next AGM in [early] 2013, and Siemens still intends to remain as anchor shareholder in Osram.”
In addition, Loscher warned demand from China was slowing and said he doesn't expect recovery until 2013 at the earliest. “Our focus above all is on increasing our productivity and efficiency,” he added.
The giant video screen was made up of small paddle-shaped LED Pixel Tablets designed by Tait Technologies, each attached to a seat in the stadium and bearing 9 full colour pixels arranged in a square. Together, the 70,500 Pixel Tablets created a ‘human powered’ screen of unprecedented size, on which Crystal’s digital animations were displayed.
The audience literally became part of the action. No longer limited by large flat screens, we were presented with the challenge of creating animations to bring the stage and the spectators together,” said Will Case, creative director at Crystal. “We delivered. The live audience and those watching at home were drawn into the action. We are witnessing the death of the traditional video screen – this will transform the way event content is presented in future, becoming a more immersive experience.”

it proves that Unilumin has been striving for the leading enterprise in LED industry
The average power consumption of traditional LED displays is less than or equal to 640w/h, while that of P25 can be 350W/h and even lower, saving a lot cost for the Ocean Park. Although having low energy consumption, Its luminance can still be as high as 6000cd/㎡, which can be regarded as the champion in energy-saving.
As a new milestone in the progress of Unilumin Tech, it proves that Unilumin has been striving for the leading enterprise in LED industry.
Starting in late 2011 and culminating in early 2012, the parking garage underwent a complete lighting retrofit. Increasing energy costs and environmental impact led Nishijima, Assistant Vice President-Asset Management of Kaneohe Ranch Management Ltd and his team to start considering LED fixtures as a solution to these challenges.
We looked at a number of different lighting manufacturer's LED solutions and the EvoLucia products came up on top because of the light quality and the unique EvoLucia Aimed Optics(TM) photometrics package that strategically directs light precisely where it is needed, avoiding light glare and spill. Also, we liked the idea that EvoLucia products are used at many US military installations around the world," added Nishijima.
