The market for LEDs in lighting is expected to demonstrate substantial unit growth over the next five years

Global Resource Energy Inc. announce that its affiliate, Kardings America, has developed a strategic partnership with Pacific Coast Agency Lighting of Vancouver, Canada.

Pacific Coast Agency is an indoor lighting distributor and represents more than 15 different brands and specializes in providing complete solutions to companies looking to reduce lighting costs by switching to efficient, green technologies. Kardings intends to formalize its partnership with Pacific Coastal Agency in the coming weeks.

Kardings will continue to work with Pacific Coast Agency to further acquire business in the Interior LED lighting industry, and industry that is growing at over 40% per year worldwide.

The same supply conditions that reduced the price of LEDs increased the demand for packaged LEDs in lighting applications from $1.2 billion in 2010 to $1.8 billion in 2011. System efficacy, rather than LED efficacy, was the gating factor in 2011. The LED luminaire and replacement lamp market was $9.3 billion in 2011, an increase of 45% over 2010. The market for LEDs in lighting is expected to demonstrate substantial unit growth over the next five years, but revenue growth may be lower due to pricing pressure although margins can be maintained due to reducing costs of raw materials.

The challenge in the project was to create the most shadow-free and high-quality light in a slim design to D-TEC’s professional users. We are very happy with the result, a LED based fixture that offers a uniform ambient light easy to dim with a remote control”, says Jonas St?lhandske, CEO at Aluwave.
The main target group for Halo is dentists. Their specific challenge is the difference in light in the clinic – the high flux from the operating lamp versus the lower flux in the ambient space where all the tools and equipment are located. In addition, dentists have specific requirements on light intensity, brightness and color rendering. The fixtures should also have low power consumption, remote controls and be easy to clean on a daily basis. This new LED-based fixture, Halo, meets all these requirements efficiently and recreates the natural daylight needed for visual inspection after treatments.

Aluwave has designed the LED-module, software and control system of the fixture and taken part of the joint development project with D-TEC and Formal Design. Now, Aluwave will manufacture the LED-modules and supply LED-modules, drivers and remote controls to D-TEC. Serial production has started and Halo is available on the market from now on.

The regulations require Nova Scotia Power to complete its conversion by Dec. 31, 2019. Municipalities will have until LED linear high bay light, and now have one year to outline the conversion.

LEDs can provide the energy to drive all of that

Cary Mitchell, a plant biologist at Purdue University, says that as lunar light sources, LEDs would be cool, solid state and robust; lasting 50,000 hours at least, or some five times longer than conventional horticultural light sources. He also notes that that they could survive the journey to the lunar surface where they could then be strung inside inflatable lava tunnel greenhouses or in radiation-hardened, solid greenhouses on the surface.”

“On earth, Mitchell says it takes roughly 50 square meters of agriculture to provide both food and oxygen life to support one human. But, as he points out, who can say how productive plants are ultimately going to be on the moon, in gravity that is only one sixth that of earth?”

“Through photosynthesis, plants produce oxygen and also scavenge carbon dioxide out of the air,” said Mitchell. “Light LEDs can provide the energy to drive all of that.”

“As for water? Mitchell says if water can be generated onsite so much the better but, if not, it would need to be brought from earth and continually recycled.”

According to a research study undertaken by Philips’ market intelligence team, Africa could save up to $10-billion in energy LED high bay light costs annually – more than 50- million tons of carbon and the equivalent energy output of 35 power stations, if the continent were to switch its existing lighting to LED solutions.

These figures are only estimated under on-grid lighting, where electricity is present. If LED solutions combine with the latest innovations in battery and solar developments, they can provide practical and sustainable light for about 600-million Africans who currently live without electricity.

Recently, the company has set up the first solar lighting project on the African continent that use Philips Solar Gen2 LED lighting system, in Marrakech, Morroco.

The system is easy to install and has built-in intelligence to maximise battery life and output. The timings for the lights can be preset led high bay lighting and the system operates on smaller batteries and panels than conventional solutions.

SemiLEDs CEO, Mr. Trung Doan stated that S35 and P2, warm and cool white (5700K and 3000K respectively) were our first series to go through the 6000 hour tests at both 350 and 700mA. The test result from LED high bay light showed that the lumen maintenance is 98.75% and 97.81% for 55℃ and 85℃, respectively, for 3000K emitter at 700mA driving current, far above the requirements of LM-80 for domestic indoor application at 91.8% and domestic outdoor and commercial usage at 94.1%.

SemiLEDs further explained that providing high quality components to lighting fixture manufacturers is important to enabling quicker penetration of LED into the lighting market.

The S35 is SemiLEDs first series of emitters with a 35x35mm footprint utilizing a silicon housing material. SemiLEDs had launched the C35 – the second generation of its 35 x 35mm emitters in June 2012. The C35 incorporates SemiLEDs EV LED chip and a ceramic base. The thermal resistance complements to SemiLEDs vertical chip on metal alloy substrate technology. Besides thermal management, SemiLEDs also implemented the latest innovation in phosphor technology, Color PrecisionTM binning, to it C35 product family allowing customers to be in control of their CCT distribution. With the new technology, consistent color can be produced within a single 7-step, 4step or 2-step MacAdam Ellipse centered in ANSI defined standard color spaces.

In general, the refraction indexes of resins change depending on temperature. But the light transmission of the new paper does not change much even at a temperature of 90°C because the pulp prevents the thermal expansion of the resin, Yano said.In November 2011, Yano announced that he developed a technology to make a transparent sheet by using a material made by making a crab shell transparent.

At Monday's city council meeting, council members authorized the mayor to sign a contract with local contractor, Paulson Electric Inc to complete LED lighting upgrade project in Missoula's City Hall. The project is being paid for by a grant from the Department of Energy given to the city as part of the Clean Air Act.

It means the company will now install almost $150,000 in new LED lighting and lighting controls in the basements, stairwells, and hallways of City Hall.

Ashforth, the commercial real estate firm , estimates it will save 56 percent on lighting and energy costs annually. The environmentally conscious company will also drastically reduce its carbon footprint by more than 253,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

Village Place Apartments is a 72-unit complex, and, like most apartment complexes, Village Place’s interior corridor lighting is turned on 24 hours a day, seven days a week. During the retrofit, 56 lights were updated with the TerraLUX Linear LED Engine including: wall sconces, overhead dome lights, bathroom lights and outdoor lights.

Approved by Taiwan's six major lighting associations and two state-funded institutes, the Institute for Information Industry (III) and the Industrial Technology Research Institute, the five intelligent lighting system standards cover the areas of system functions, wide area networks, field area networks, design guides for field area networks, and lighting device specifications, and will promote badly needed integration in the country's lighting supply chain.

Gary Tsai, a research director at the institute, pointed out that “To maintain our technological edge and overall value, Taiwanese companies need to develop higher-value smart lighting systems and improve product compatibility based on these new standards.”

Tsai said that the next step for Taiwan's LED industry is to apply to the government to have the standards accepted as national norms, which could help Taiwan expand its role in negotiations on setting international lighting standards. Before then, by bringing about greater industry integration, the new norms could help address the lack of balance between the domestic LED industry's output value and volume.

The program also provides information essential to evaluating products and identifying the best options. LED Lighting Facts testing laboratory approval is granted to partners that have submitted proof of accreditation by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP), a program administered by the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) that provides an unbiased third-party evaluation to testing and calibration laboratories, or have been recognized by other accreditation bodies. Cooper Lighting has NVLAP accreditation for solid-state lighting (SSL) test methods in Energy Efficient Lighting Products.

Panasonic will regroup some of the related divisions into single divisions

Corporate R&D’s new mission will be to create new business and technologies in long-term growth areas and develop uniform technologies across the entire company.

The personnel working on existing business fields will gear their R&D toward midterm business growth. Panasonic recently focused research on OLEDs with Sony, and on flexible electronics with imec.

Additionally, Panasonic is also forming a corporate strategy head office, with about 150 staffs, to oversee midterm strategies and allocate management resources, as well as develop executives and promote cash flow management.

Functions other than the above will be realigned as part of a Professional Business Support Sector. Panasonic will regroup some of the related divisions into single divisions and simplify organizations.
