The excellence of this LED series comes from brightness improvements and enhancements throughout the in-house R&D and production process from epitaxial to chip to packaging. Lextar’s high efficiency technology demonstrates its vertical integration strength, and can compare with the top tier LED makers. This high-efficiency product can be applied to bulbs and light tubes at lower costs as fewer LED are required by increased brightness. The Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition is the second largest lighting devices exhibition in Asia. It has been held for 16 years and this is the second time that Lextar has a presence there. The exhibition features very extensive contents: from LED technology, professional lighting, light source, lighting control system and production equipment and instruments for lighting devices. There were more than 2000 exhibitors from some 110 countries in last year’s show. It is expected that number of both exhibitors and visitors will soar this year as the LED industry is in the global spotlight as a result of the trend of environment protection and energy saving as well as mandates imposed by the regulations of individual countries.
Reportedly, the Smart Lighting Engineering Research Centre (ERC) led by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has set up 21 key industrial partners including Osram Sylvania and Taiwan-based Epistar to help guide the centre’s leading-edge research programs and hasten the transition of important innovations from the lab bench to the marketplace. The ERC is led by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. It is dedicated to developing new LED technologies and applications for smarter, better-performing lighting devices and systems. At present, the ERC team is working to create better LEDs, as well as new sensors and systems required to effectively to monitor and control these LEDs.More than 30 ERC faculty researchers at Rensselaer and partner universities are actively working toward this goal, along with dozens of student researchers, postdoctoral researchers, and visiting industry engineers.
Along with Rensselaer, core ERC university partners are Boston University and the University of New Mexico. ERC university outreach partners are Howard University in Washington, Morgan State University in Baltimore, and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute. The system will be delivered in the second quarter of 2011. One of AIXTRON′s local support teams in China will commission the new reactor in a new state of the art facility at the University.According to Dr. Jian Liang, Professor of Taiyuan University of Technology’s Material College State Laboratory, this will be their first AIXTRON epitaxial growth system. They are particularly interested in its versatility as well as stand-out factors such as low material consumption. These will ensure that this system is so much superior for their University research project. The systems will be used to increase GPI’s capacity for the production of HB LEDs being driven by applications such as backlighting, lighting, displays, and automotive.
