Lextar stressed that it has worked hard to diversify customers for a while, in order to reduce business overdependence on its parent company for sustainable development.
In the meanwhile, the company has also built business links with several Korean and Chinese panel makers, as well as a few consumer electronic device brands abroad. In addition, the company stated that it will continue to explore segments for lightings and backlights this year to boost shipment of its LED products. And it will also work hard on technology upgrades and patent acquisition, moving forward on its plan of becoming a globally competitive maker of this kind.
Despite of the low price, the bulbs do have some limitations when compared to their less energy efficient counterparts. The Pharox Blu line is available in 200-lumen and 350-lumen versions, but both give off less light than a 40-watt incandescent, which offers 450 lumens. These bulbs consume less than 5 watts and 8 watts, respectively, but probably won’t offer enough light for general conditions.

the best returns on investment for companies looking to reduce their energy use
EECA has found switching to energy efficient lighting provides one of the best returns on investment for companies looking to reduce their energy use.
“Lighting accounts for about a fifth of the electricity used in commercial buildings so there’s a lot of potential for savings for both individual companies and the country as a whole” says Bill Brander, EECA’s Lighting Programme Manager. “For example, reducing electricity use by just 20% through use of more efficient lighting and controls has the potential to save 1.4 petajoules or over $40 million of energy at a national level.”
Apart from that, the company is also developing the 2nd generation (or "type 2") panel which will up the efficiency to 60 lm/W and the lifetime to 15,000 hours. It will keep the same size, but the color will be 3,500K. It plans to start mass production of type 2 panels in 2Q 2012.
In the meanwhile, LG Chem published their LED lighting roadmap. According to its roadmap, the company schedules to provide larger panels (150x150 mm) which will feature 80 lm/W and 20,000 lifetime hours (LT70) by 2013. And they will also produce transparent panels by then. By 2015 the company will offer flexible panels as well, and their most efficient panel will feature over 135 lm/W and 40,000 lifetime (LT70) at 200x200 mm.

LED lighting not only offers the advantage of a long service life
The Jerónimo Martins Group is among the first European retail companies to equip its new stores entirely with innovative LED lighting, a move that will save the company 50 percent of its lighting energy costs in future – thanks to Oslon SSL LEDs from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors and the intelligent light management system of the luminaires supplied by the Portuguese lamp manufacturer Arquiled.
The Jeronimo Martins Group has been using the luminaire concepts from Arquiled in its new stores since spring 2011. The first LED-based lighting systems were installed in a newly opened Recheio store in Torres Vedras, a rapidly growing region north of Lisbon. The lighting in both the shop and the outdoor areas is being seen as a model and reference for the chain’s other stores. The next project is already being planned for a store in Tavira, Portugal, where Arquiled will likewise incorporate products from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors in its special lighting concept, aiming to achieve the highest quality of the LEDs used. “Apart from the performance and efficiency of the products, which are unparalleled on the LED market, another winning feature of the LEDs from Germany is the excellent local support we receive,” says Arquiled’s CEO, Rafael Abelha Santos, explaining the background of the partnership.
The Jeronimo Martins Group also elected to use luminaires from Arquiled and high-quality LEDs from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors for its outdoor lighting in the area of the parking lots and around the integrated gas stations. The Arquicity street lamps are equipped with light sensors and can adapt their brightness automatically to changing situations. The combination of intelligent light management and the low energy consumption of the LEDs will slash energy costs. "The technical properties of the LED technology will help to achieve considerable savings on power consumption and offer numerous advantages in terms of installation and maintenance, too. That means we save three different resources: power, time and money," said Antonio Sousa, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Portugal.
The project began with a detailed analysis of the retail chain’s lighting requirements. Based on the results, Arquiled developed a luminaire concept to meet the special needs of supermarkets. LED lighting not only offers the advantage of a long service life and the associated low maintenance costs, but is also ideal for direct product illumination. LEDs generally emit very little thermal energy and do not heat up the objects they are illuminating. They can hence be positioned closer to products without damaging them.

developed a curing lighting source for equipment of assorted sectors
Organizers say the display shows the end of the era of Edison, and the beginning of a more efficient future. As Peter Soares of led high bay light, said "It's an icon for New York, right? But more importantly, it's representation of the future, the lighting future."
"Back in 1907, the very first New Year's Eve ball had 125-watt incandescent bulbs, that was super-high tech in 1907. This is the next step forward using new LED technology," said Tim Tompkins of the Times Square Alliance.
As the LED backlight market entered a plateau period, the lighting market becomes the major battlefield for the global LED makers to compete in. Given the fierce price competition, a number of LED manufacturers have shifted their focus to LED specialty lighting, plant lighting and medical lighting in seek of higher profits.
With its vertical LED structure technology, American LED epitaxy manufacturer Semi LEDs developed UV LEDs of the wavelength range below 385nm. Additionally, the company optimized LEDs’ curing characteristics and developed a curing lighting source for equipment of assorted sectors, including panel, touch panel, semi-conductor, solar, camera lens for mobile phones and industrial printing equipment.

can help a building achieve points toward LEED certification
Studies by Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s lighting team and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory show that advanced lighting controls, in conjunction with various energy management strategies, can typically yield a combined lighting energy savings of 40 to 80 percent in office buildings. The use of addressable dimming lighting controls, in particular, can help a building achieve points toward LEED certification.
Addressable dimming allows for individual controlling of each fixture or peripheral device (such as occupancy sensors, photo sensors and wall controllers) in a facility. “All devices are networked and centrally controlled through a central software interface,” Mocherniak explained. “This allows for addressable dimming or switching of light fixtures independent of electrical circuiting for the purpose of energy management.”
Commissioning and administration of the entire system can be performed via a front-end software interface. Once addressable dimming controls are implemented on a facility-wide basis, a number of led high bay light energy management strategies – such as Daylight Harvesting, Load Shedding, Smart Time Scheduling, Task Tuning, Occupancy Sensing and Personal Control – can help to optimize energy performance and improve lighting quality.

improvement in LED lighting product life expectancy
ZC series, developed based on Seoul Semiconductor’s Z-Power LEDs which are mainly used as a light source of led high bay light and high-power, decreases thermal resistance, resulting in an exponential improvement in LED lighting product life expectancy.
The ZC Series is designed as a COB type and removes the need for the LED to be surface-mounted on to a metal plate, allowing manufacturers to bypass the chip connection process before use. Companies can trim manufacturing and management costs and greatly improve end product price competitiveness.
Furthermore the use of highly-reflective aluminum substrates in ZC also improves the brightness and significantly prolongs LED bulb life spans. It is possible to use a single ZC from the ZC series to develop a LED light bulb which then allows light to be distributed more evenly than lights that connect several LED packages to a single module.
During his visit to the Bavarian state capital Munich, the Chinese Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang met the managing board of OSRAM AG. The discussions focused above all on questions concerning closer cooperation in the field of light-emitting diodes, in short LED. The chairman of the managing board at OSRAM AG, Wolfgang Dehen, emphasized: “The discussions were of enormous importance to us notably with a view to the great significance of the Chinese lighting market.”
