According to Philip Warner, Vice President, the company will put its full research and design might into developing the next generation of LED lamps. “We will not dilute our offerings with high-efficiency incandescent or even CFLs, as these are yesterday’s technologies. Our focus is 100-percent on LED.
In April 2009, Samsung LED was established globally, channelling the company’s expertise in the electronics and electro-mechanics fields into the production of cutting-edge LED lighting. And to support the company’s expansion into the U.S. market, an American centre of operations has been established in Atlanta, Ga.

Reportedly, Excelitas Technologies, a light engine manufacturer serving medical device OEMs worldwide, announced that its led high bay light manufacturing facility in Wheeling, Ill. has achieved ISO 13485:2003 certification.
ISO 13485:2003 certification is an internationally recognized quality standard designed to ensure that medical device manufacturers and critical component suppliers to medical device manufacturers have the required quality management systems in place to safely design, manufacture and distribute medical devices as well as the critical components incorporated into these devices.
Excelitas’ LED and Xenon-based medical lighting technologies are available in surgical suite lighting, surgical headlamps, dental lighting, endoscopy, robotically-assisted minimally invasive surgery, photodynamic therapy for newborns.

As the latest expansion of the company's solid state lighting portfolio, the LED Linear high bay light fixture line contains LED modules, power supplies, controls, lighting services and the number one line of LED retrofits in North America.
Featuring solid-state light sources and streamlined design, the introductory SYLVANIA fixture line includes luminaires for outdoor, hospitality and residential applications that will save up to 80 percent of the energy used by fixtures using traditional light sources.
Roger Buelow, Energy Focus CTO, was delighted to have received the Phase 2 notification grant, and commented that “The award is to replace existing test stand and parking lot fixtures with high performance led high bay light including Hazardous Location and Explosion-Proof lights that build off of technology first conceived under DARPA SBIRs. The work allows us to develop the concepts we presented to NASA in our Phase 1 work."

According to Rubicon Technology ’s chief executive, the company is targeting to increased demand from Japanese customers due to supply disruptions after the massive earthquake.Chief Executive Raja Parvez said in a recent interview that ,"We are seeing some additional requests for additional materials" from major Japanese LED chip manufacturers.

Top Japanese manufacturers of LEDs include Toyoda Gosei and privately held Nichia Corp.Rubicon manufactures sapphire substrates for LEDs. It controls about 25 percent to 30 percent of the global market, and most of its sales are to customers in Korea, Taiwan and Japan.
The company still expects prices on its sapphire substrates to be about the same in the second quarter as they were in the LED Linear high bay light first quarter, Parvez said, though he said increased demand from Japan could help support pricing.This should enhance the pricing environment, but definitively I can speak only once I have the data with me," Parvez said.
