the LEDs will never operate outside of their recommended safe operating area

The iW3610 uses advanced digital control technology to automatically detect and operate seamlessly with a leading edge or a trailing edge dimmer or if no dimmer is present. In case of an un-supported dimmer, the device shuts down and goes into a fail-safe mode. The device is compatible with existing wall dimmers available worldwide and allows parallel lamp operation for true retrofit replacement of incandescent bulbs, halogen lamps and linear fluorescent tubes.

The iW3610 operates in quasi-resonant mode and employs adaptive gate drive control and iWatt’s proprietary EZ EMI technology to achieve high efficiency and a low EMI signature. Depending on the application, efficiencies greater than 80% and power factor greater than 0.9 are easily achievable. The iW3610’s maximum operating frequency of 200kHz enables LED designers to use smaller size components to design driver boards that are small enough to fit inside existing bulb and lamp housing or inside fluorescent tubes. In addition to the standard protection features, the iW3610 also provides over-temperature protection using an external NTC resistor for robust protection. Moreover, the IC provides temperature drift control of the LED driver current to ensure that the LEDs will never operate outside of their recommended safe operating area.

Configured in size and features for MR16 LED replacements, the first reference design describes a built and tested 3 watt (W) to 5 W LED driver solution for driving high-brightness LEDS (HB-LEDs). The second design is targeted at designers looking to achieve compliance with the ENERGY STAR 1.1 requirements for led high bay light in residential luminaire applications and describes a built and tested off-line GreenPoint solution for an isolated 8 W constant current LED driver.

The Intematix "phosphor-paint" retail signage solution implements a carefully designed, 50,000 hour backlight grid of royal-blue LEDs that excite the sign's photoluminescent display surface. In contrast to conventional backlit signage, in which the display surface filters white light to generate a desired color, the phosphor-paint actually generates the desired colors of light over the entire display surface. The result is high-visibility and visual quality in the sign's unlit daytime state, and vivid, "eye-popping" color, similar to neon signage, when lit.

Remote phosphor solutions have previously been applied to individual LEDs and in LED light fixtures. Intematix has created an innovative solution by marrying the elements – phosphor, blue LED excitation, LED light extraction and printing technology – and scaling the solution up to the level of retail signage, all while making sure it would deliver on the long life promise. Intematix emphasized that it had strong pending patents for the innovation, covering all aspects of the technology for phosphor-based signage based on LED backlighting.

Azzurro, which specializes in the growth of gallium nitride (GaN) on silicon substrates, has licensed and transferred its process technology for GaN-on-Si growth to Osram Opto Semiconductors. Having pioneered the growth of GaN on silicon substrates using metalorganic vapour phase epitaxy (MOVPE), Azzurro is currently providing its customers worldwide with GaN-on-Si epiwafers for LED and high-voltage applications. Azzurro says that its unique capability to grow very thick (8 micron) high-quality GaN on silicon substrates (currently 150 mm) is expected to enable cost breakthroughs for high-brightness LEDs and GaN-based high-voltage devices.

The individual LED pods contain 15 LEDs and are fully potted. Each led high bay light has a red and black lead for 12 or 24 volt power. Two different aluminum billet mount styles are available with either chrome or black anodize finish. The first mount has a flat mounting surface, while the tubular mount style has a concave base for mounting on bars, rails and other round stock. The LED light models measure approximately 5 inches long and 1 inch wide, while the single LED light is under 2 inches in length.

According to the the company, Veeco completed the highest bookings quarter in its history, with demand mainly from LED manufacturers in China, Taiwan and S. Korea, who had purchased Veeco’s TurboDisc MOCVD equipment to ramp up and expand their manufacturing capacities.

Veeco’s 4Q09 revenues are currently forecasted to be between $120-$130 million, with earnings per share between $0.29 and $0.35 on a non-GAAP basis, above analyst expectations. Veeco’s 2009 revenue guidance is now $353-$363 million, up from previous guidance of $310-$325 million.

Veeco’s vice president Peter Collingwood further noted that the new office will be commited to the growing green energy market, and the company will also strengthen its scientific research. The testing lab area in the new facility has been expanded to 3 times its previous size.

The City of Naperville has been monitoring Borealis LED high bay lights since June and they will continue to do so until January 2010.between Country Club Boulevard and Fairway Drive. The city’s Department of Public Works is monitoring seven 120 watt Borealis LED high bay lights with a like number of 350 watt high pressure sodium (HPS) LED high bay lights. One meter in the LED high bay lights controller monitors the power consumption of the LED lighting, with a second meter monitoring the power consumption of the HPS lighting. To date, measured results from the study have tabulated Borealis led high bay light have consumed 57.2% less energy than the HPS LED high bay lights. The meter readings have also indicated that the Borealis LED high bay lights monthly energy consumption was 382 while the HPS was 892.
