Miller added that LED systems also last up to five times longer
Some cities spend up to 60 percent of electricity consumption on street lighting," says Tim Miller, senior product manager for GE Lighting. "Others are already saving hundreds of thousands of dollars a year with GE Evolve LED roadway fixtures."
Miller added that LED systems also last up to five times longer than HID lamps, further reducing the frequency and expense of maintenance.
After the Evolve LED Cobrahead won Best-in-Class ('Street/Roadway Lighting') in the U.S. Department of Energy 2009 Next Generation Luminaires Design Competition, GE asked its top engineers to make it even better—and they did. The new Evolve LED Scalable Cobraheads offer increased light output and more pavement distribution patterns to suit a wider range of roadway classifications, while using up to 25 percent fewer watts than original LED Cobrahead fixtures.
Evolve LED Scalable Cobraheads have a unique reflective optical design that uses less light and efficiently aims it precisely where needed, reducing glare and wasteful spill light. Available in color temperatures of 4000K or 5700K and providing between 3,000 and 21,900 initial lumen output, GE's new roadway lights preserve the aesthetic appeal of original Cobrahead fixtures and incorporate a robust heat sink that does not rely on air movement to effectively cool the unit.

its light output was four-times the intensity of competing products
To evaluate LED lighting systems and ensure the technology was economically and technologically viable, the Mayor enlisted the help of LED high bay light and Spectrum Lighting, which tested lighting fixtures from several companies that were pre-programmed with 4th of July shows.
The PCK system was not only easy to install, its light output was four-times the intensity of competing products. The city originally funded two smaller pilot projects with PCK lighting on wind vanes in the downtown area and on the local amphitheater to ensure the system could withstand the harsh Gulf Coast environment. Funding for the project came from the Texas Department of Transportation, the Port, the city of Corpus Christi and a generous donation from American Bank.
Since it was relit in December, the bridge has become a local attraction, creating buzz around Corpus Christi and surrounding areas, as well as increasing local business. With lightshows that change monthly, locals and tourists eagerly anticipate to see the new displays. In fact, hospitality businesses near the bridge, such as restaurants and hotels, sell out on a regular basis and require at least a one month advanced reservation.
The new lighting system is not only Led linear high bay light, it can be easily programmed to create different light shows, helping to boost tourism, one of the city's main sources of income.

applications with either gold or silver
Jeongsu Yu from LG Chem, Head of R&D Center, IT&E,commented: “We are proud and grateful to have received this prestigious award. The brilliant 3D applications that we can offer our customers thanks to reactive mesogens from Merck make it possible for us to supply the global mass market with innovative technologies and to further enhance our image as a pioneering leader in the display industry."
The Society for Information Display (SID), headquartered in San Jose, California, has been granting the Display of the Year Awards annually since 1995. Considered to be the most prestigious prize in the display industry, they distinguish the most innovative, future-oriented products, components and applications with either gold or silver. Over the past several years, Merck has been distinguished on numerous occasions for its contributions to liquid crystal display development - in 2009 Merck was awarded a prize for its PS-VA materials. The “Silver Honor for the Display Component of the Year Award” will be conferred to Merck and LG Chem during this year’s Display Week, the 50th SID International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition, on June 6.
Merck will have a booth at the exhibition in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center to present the newest products from its broad portfolio of innovative display materials. These include the latest reactive mesogen mixtures used in LC Displays to improve viewing angle dependency for optimum image quality with respect to contrast and color.
The 3D FPR (Film-Patterned Retarder) is an optical component attached to the upper polarizer of LCD televisions. It converts left and right eye images to left and right circular polarized light, allowing people to enjoy 3D images through polarized glasses. LG Chem commercialized the world’s first FPR in 2010. LG Chem's FPR is ten times thinner and 20 times lighter than the glass-based patterned retarder. In addition, it can be easily mass-produced, and helps people to enjoy 3D contents conveniently. LG Chem has developed various key technologies such as novel photo-aligning polymer, non-contact-type roll-to-roll continuous patterning and management of dimensional stability of FPR, resulting in superior performance 3D display. FPR consists of substrate, alignment layer and a patterned reactive mesogen film. The novel photo-aligning polymer has very high UV sensitivity and heat stability suitable for film processing.
